International humanitarian law (IHL) is a branch of public international law that seeks to limit the effects of armed conflict by protecting people who do not participate in hostilities or who have decided to stop participating in the confrontation, and restrict and regulate the media. and methods of warfare available to combatants; regulates conduct in armed conflict (ius in bello).

It is made up of a series of norms, most of which are reflected in the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols.

The norms of international humanitarian law aim to avoid and limit human suffering in times of armed conflict.

In turn, it aims to limit or prohibit the use of certain methods of war, but it does not determine whether a country has the right to resort to force, as established in the United Nations charter.

These norms are binding both by the governments and armies participating in the conflict and by the various armed opposition groups or any party participating in it.
